I've been to Sally Beauty several times and have seen these eye shadows but never had the desire to purchase them. It wasn't until I was surfing through YouTube videos where I ran across another MUA who had used them when I decided to give them a chance. For $.99 each these travel sized shadows are not half bad. You purchase them individually and then connect them {on the side} to make them in to palette. The pigmentation is not as great as some other eye shadows that I've used and tested but for $.99 they will do the job. "Cupcake Soiree" Look

A lot of people have asked if I did a YouTube video tutorial for this look and the answer is "no". Truth is, I didn't know what look I was going to do that day so I didn't want to do a video. This look is very similar to the "white, pink & purple" look that I did that is very similar to this look. Since I didn't do a video tutorial I've decided to list the products that I used.

The Battle of the Blue Mascara's

Last year I was watching a YouTube video where a girl used a blue mascara. I had been searching high and low for a blue mascara that was actually visible on natural/false lashes without having to use the whole tube. I have purchased a blue mascara from MAC cosmetics but it was a "seasonal" product and was a light blue. Once I'd seen her video, I rushed over to Lord & Taylor to purchase Dior's "DiorShow" mascara in "Azure Blue". I tested it out while I was there to make sure it was everything I had been looking for...and it was! When I went to pay for it, my mouth dropped. NEVER IN ALL OF MY LIFE had I spent $25 on mascara. Even though I hesitated to give the salesperson my debit card, the makeup artist in me had to have this mascara.

About a month or 2 went by before I popped the tube open and used it for the first time. I was in love. I wore it often and got compliments on it. "DiorShow" had become my favorite mascara until......

One day (on my usual weekly run to target) I was browsing the makeup section to see what was on sale and to see what new products had come out. I knew that I needed some black mascara for my kit when I ran across Maybelline's "Great Lash" washable mascara in "Royal Blue". I loved my Dior mascara so there was no need to replace it but the price was something that I just didn't like. Don't get me wrong, I'd purchase another one in a heart beat if there was no other choice. Once I found Maybelline's mascara, I had to purchase it and weigh my options and here's where the battle ends:

"DiorShow" in Azure Blue

What I liked:

The blue pigment was very vibrant

The packaging is pretty snazzy

What I didn't like:

The $25 price

The wand/brush was too big for my lashes (especially the bottom)

Dries quick so I am almost unable to get 2 coats of product on

"Great Lash" in Royal Blue

What I liked:

The blue pigment was vibrant

The price is reasonable ($6)

The wand/brush is small enough for my lashes (top and bottom)

This mascara is easier to find and purchase (Target, Walmart & Maybelline's website)

I'm able to get 2 coats of mascara on

What I didn't like:

The packaging looks like the others so it can easily be mistaken for black or brown

The blue is not as vibrant as "DiorShow"

In the end Maybelline wins the battle!

Fabulously Fit w/Positive Vibes Fitness

{January 2011}

This was the year that I put all of my energy in to "education". I wanted to take classes and teach classes. What I didn't expect to take a class in was "fitness". I use to HATE working out so what started out as sort of a joke, became a way of life. In June I began the "21 day challenge" with fitness guru David Cox of Positive Vibes Fitness {Glen Burnie, MD}. I wanted to see how much weight I could lose before my trip to Los Angeles for the annual IMATS show. What turned out to be 21 days continued on to the present day.

For 21 days I changed my eating habits, exercised, did personal training sessions with him (2 days/week) and in the end I lost weight and my bad eating habits. Working out with David completely changed the way I thought about food, the juices/sodas I use to drink and even the types of snacks. Once that challenge was over I started his 30 days for $39 challenge and went even further. I incorporated a "Latin Caliente" dance class and 1-2 more days of exercise at the gym.

{September 2011}

Now I go to the gym or get some type of exercise in at least 3-4 times a week because I "like" the gym. My clothes are fitting better and I'm feeling better. I try not to eat late at night. I drink water throughout my day and make sure that I'm eating as healthy as I can without depriving myself of "goodies" every now and then. If I go out to eat (most of the time) I get a "to go" box so that I'm not eating everything in one sitting. I want to personally and publicly thank David for changing my life and helping feel better about myself and leading me on a path to healthy eating. He's not only my personal trainer but also a great person and as hard at his business as I do. I love you DAVID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Modern Friction" vs "Buffy Body Butter"

Recently I was in Origins picking up my usual skin care products. The lady that helped me was like a regional director or something so I asked her what type of body scrub she would suggest for shower use to exfoliate the skin. She suggested "Modern Friction for the Body". Now you know how much I love Origins skin care products and you know how much I love Lush Cosmetics body products soooooo I put it to the test. I used the "Modern Friction for the Body" twice a week for 2 weeks to see if I would like it and if I noticed a difference in my skin.

Here's what I liked:
- Not a heavy fragrance
- Exfoliated the skin
- I only needed a small amount and the size of the tube is large (6.7 oz)

Here's what I didn't like:
- $35.00
- Left my skin feeling dry
- The exfoliation beads were everywhere and hard to rinse away

Compared to my Lush Cosmetics "Buffy Body Butter"

Here is what I Liked:
- Not a heavy fragrance
- Exfoliated the skin
- The bar is easy to use and doesn't require a wash cloth
- Moisturizes the skin
- Easy to rinse off
- $11.95/small bar $22/large bar

Here is what I didn't like:
- Leaves the shower/tub slipper
- Leaves the shower/tub with a greasy film
- I only get about 3-4 uses out of the small bar

In the end I will stick with my "Buffy Body Butter" just because I like the way my skin feels after using it and I love it more than I do the "Modern Friction for the Body".

I had the pleasure of meeting this lovely bride last year. She was a bridesmaid in her friends wedding that I was working on. This anxious bride was ready to get started with her bridal trial almost a year before her wedding {smile}. I have to admit that she was one of my sweetest brides. It was great working with her and her bridal party this Saturday and to also be reunited with her Matron of Honor whose makeup I did last year as well as another bridesmaid.

For Tanyka’s special day I did her hair as well as her makeup (airbrush). Her wedding colors were a pretty summer green with a hint of pink {representing the AKA colors} so I did her makeup with a hint of the pink and her bridal parties makeup in neutral & green tones. Her hair was a low classic pincurled bun with a feathered bang.

Today is "Divine Cre8ions" 11th birthday. I remember when I first started this company I was sitting in my moms home office trying to think of names. I actually did a survey to let friends/family and clients get involved with the process. At that time my friend Laurry and I brainstormed and came up with "Divine Creations". The "8" didn't replace the "a" until sometime later when I went to get a website and the name was taken my a guy who owned "Divine Creations" in philadelphia. Once I added the "8" I felt like my own identity had been created and here we are 11 years later still going strong and have conquered 2 states!!!

This shimmer gloss retails for $21 at Armour Beauty. This has to be my FAVORITE. I love love love this color. It puts my Inglot iridescent lipgloss to shame and you KNOW how much I love Inglot. It's an iridescent hot pink lipgloss with a hue of purple. I would definitely rock this color all alone so it can show off and show out! For the eyes I would do a matching pink/purple look.
The consistency is a little thicker than your normal gloss which to me can be a good thing because it will last longer. This gloss comes in a 6.5 ml cute clear bottle and smells like vanilla.

"Edie" Lipgloss

This Opaque gloss retails for $21 at Armour Beauty. It's a pale beige/pink color that really like. Somehow I feel like I would wear this color by itself but I would rather not have the "ashy lip" look so I would cocktail this gloss with a brown lip liner and nude lipstick. For the eyes I would do something smoky!
The consistency is a little thicker than your normal gloss which to me can be a good thing because it will last longer. This gloss comes in a 6.5 ml cute clear bottle and smells like vanilla.

I had the pleasure of meeting this lovely bride at a bridal show. She was one of the nicest ladies there and had even come by my booth twice. Once we left the show she contacted me about doing her consultation and booked me on the spot. What’s funny is that she referred me to a bride and hadn’t even gotten her makeup done by me! She has also referred other people to me including one of my students in my mentoring program. She is truly a special person. Well today was her special day and I’m glad to have been apart of it.

Yesterday I drove to Virginia to service Andrea and her bridal party. I had no idea that they would all be so gracious and kind. Their family is extremely close and you can tell. She is one of my favorite brides because she was kind and her words were gently. She didn’t complain or have any major outrageous plans. All she wanted to do was make her glamorous and that is what I did.

Andrea is wearing a full face of airbrush makeup (including eyes) enhanced with traditional makeup. She has eyelash enhancements as well.

Buffing Bar

BUFFING BAR

I can’t say enough about this bar. It is a MUST HAVE in your shower/bath. When I first purchased it at “lush” I didn’t get all excited because I didn’t want to be let down but this bar really does work.

One side smooths and moisturizes the skin while the other side exfoliates. It’s A-MA-ZING! For only $11 (small bar) you can get 2 full body applications out of it.

I have the large bar ($22) and use it every other day on arms, legs, & feet. Once a week I’ll do full body and it lasts a long time.

Now that I have the buffing bar I hardly use lotion anymore. I use it on my feet then put socks on to lock in the moisture so my feet stay soft.

I highly recommend this bar to everyone…yes that means you men out there can use it also.

Fine: The Basics of Beauty

I must say that I was excited to learn about this DVD when it came out but for some reason I didn't rush out and order it. I'm a huge fan of Sam Fine and have his book but I hesitated on this DVD. After my recent purchase I posted this picture on my Facebook Fanpage where I got mixed reviews. I was then hesitant to open it up because I thought I was going to have to send it back to Amazon and get my money back lol. Like I said before, I'm a huge Sam Fine fan so why would I expect anything less that great from him. He's never let me down so why would he start now? I finally watched the video today and I must say that it's awesome! Sam Fine for one is a cutie-patootie and speaks very well in order for the consumer to understand what he is talking about and why. Secondly, this video is just as it says "the basics of beauty" therefore, it's geared to beginning makeup artists and consumers wanting to enhance their beauty the right way. Now I consider myself a "seasoned" artist so I know most of the things talked about in the DVD but there were several things that I didn't know such as blotting moisturizer and foundation with tissue to cut down on creasing and shine before apply powder. As a makeup artist there are things that I may know that other MUA's don't and vice versa that is why there is ALWAYS room for education. There are things that I know but sometimes forget or overlook overtime and this demo helped to refresh my memory. In the end I am happy that I went with my "Sam gut" and purchased the DVD. I'll watch it over and over again until he comes out with another one :).

Happy New Year!

As I take a quick look back at 2010 I see disappointment, discouragement, and depression. Then I see Jesus Christ and look at 2010 again and I see encouragement, gratefulness, and Blessings in spite of the trials and tribulations I went through. Last year taught me lessons I may not have learned on my own and I'm grateful for that. I'll tell you that if it had not been for the Lord on my side I don't know where I would be. I am a child of the King and he takes care of his children. I know he won't put more on me that I can bare but when you're in the midst of a storm you don't see that. I had a couple of storms but have come out alive and well with a new understanding. Thank you Jesus for bringing me out and moving me on. Thank you Jesus for allowing me to see the 1st day of a new year and new opportunities.
I would like to thank all of my supporters, clients, and family for the love you've shown Divine Cre8ions Hair & Makeup Studio in 2010. I got to meet people that I would have never met thanks to social media and I got new clients that I never thought I would have thanks to social media. Loreal Studio Secrets Primer

I got this product at "The Makeup Show" in New York back in May. Loreal was giving away "goodie" bags and this was apart of the number of products we got. I must say that I like this product. The consistency is a cream form sort of in between a moisturizer and a paste type product (if that makes sense). I use it after moisturizer but right before foundation to prime the skin. I think Studio Secrets is great for clients with oily skin because it makes the skin "matte" helping to control the oil throughout the day. A little bit goes a long way so use it in moderation to prevent the "casper" look!

I heard about "Inglot" last year. It was in one ear and out the other until I went to The Makeup Show in May of this year and saw their booth. Ever since that day (May 16, 2010) I have been in love with their products. After the show I went back to New York to their store and lost my mind! I noticed this lip gloss and had to have it. This lip gloss is one of my favorite makeup things. It's iridescent and clear but when you put it on it takes on other colors. I usually put it over a lipstick to add shine and enhance the lip color a little. I've also used it alone and noticed in the mirror that it was clear but when I looked at my lips through the car window with the sunshine it was pink iridescent. I thought it was soooo cool. This lip gloss also comes in a hot pink color that's awesome as well. I can't remember the price but it wasn't over $15.

This Christmas
Today was a good day. As I look back on all on the 5 Christmas' I've spent with my husband I have to admit that each one gets better and better. He still gets excited around the holiday season and acts like a kid in a candy store when he sees gifts under the tree. I admire that about him because no matter how old he is he allows his inner child to come out and have fun. He loves to see the look on my face when I open gifts he's purchased and I am the same way. We act like big kids and I'm ok with that. I appreciate my husband and his family for supporting and helping me this year and trying to ease the pain of me not being with my family for the holidays. I'm looking forward to next year and more Christmas' to come.

I've used "Format" blush by MAC Cosmetics for about 5 years now and I have to say that I've liked it since the day I started using it. This blush gives you the option to add warmthSearch Amazon.com for Format blush to your look without purchasing a bronzer. This blush has a slight shimmer finish and is great to use as an added "umph" to your holiday look. Remember that it doesn't have a matte finish like most blushes but that's what makes it different.

Maybeline has to be one of my favorite mascara's. This mascara has been around for ages and has definitely proven itself worthy. Mascara's have come and gone but the original formula is still an all time favorite. I use this waterproof formula for my brides. There's nothing worse than a gorgeous face with black streaks rolling down her face. Waterproof mascara gives the bride (and bridal party) the option to cry and still look fab...lol. I mostly purchase black but for mature clients and fairer skin tones, I use soft black or brown.

Holiday Eye Shadow Sets

I stumbled upon these holiday eye shadow sets when I was in Sally's one day about a month ago. They caught my eye because of the bold colors and also the packaging says "Waterproof Eye Shadow Palette". After sampling the colors (on my hand) I must say that the colors are really nice. They seem to be true to color. I haven't had time to do a look yet but I will do that later. I wanted to get this product info out before they sell out. The palettes come in 3 shades for only $9 each. I think that is a great deal considering you get the cute compact case and 4 shades.

I'm ready for my close up

I'm not a big fan of being in front of the camera. I'm more of the "behind the scenes" type gals. Today was one of my days to be in front so as I applied my makeup I had to make sure it was on point...being that I'm a makeup artist and all. I also had to make sure my hair was laid and every strand was in tact...being that I'm a hairstylist and all. Anywho, it took me about 24 hours to prepare for the shoot and about 20 of those hours were mostly thoughts of hair and makeup lol.
The shoot was fun. Daryl and I always manage to talk for an hour and then shoot and then talk and shoot at the same time. Then our creative minds come together and we start finishing each others thoughts (weird) and then we start playing around for another hour. In the end we get a lot accomplished but it's truly an all day process. As I sit here and blog, I am reminded (by my stomach) that I haven't eaten since yesterday so that means I've been running off of pure adrenaline. So with that said...I'm about to go eat!

Giving Thanks

It's always important to say "thank you". No matter who it is or what the situation may be, saying "thank you" could be the most valuable thing you can give to a person. This thanksgiving holiday was special for me in a personal way. I spent it with my husbands family here in Maryland. Although it was low key, I am thankful for them and the love they've shown me since I've moved here. I am especially thankful for my husband and his love and support. We may go through our rough patches (like every married couple) but God always manages to guide us through the obstacle to put us back on our path.

I thank God for his mercy, love, forgiveness and guidance. I am not a perfect person and yet he always manages to smile on me in ways that I can't even imagine. Although I missed being with my family in Houston this year, I am thankful that I had food to eat, a roof over my head, and people to share the holiday with.

I stumbled across this nail polish while I was at Target on Friday. I am familiar with SoniaKashuk products but had never purchased any products. This particular nail polish stood out to me because it looked like I could get the "minx" effect without the "minx" price.

After applying it (2 coats) and my usual Sech Vite top coat, I have come to the realization that I love this nail polish and I will be going back to purchase the black one as well. The texture is still smooth (which I love) so I don't feel the grains from the glitter. The color is true so you get what you pay for and the price is very reasonable at only $4.99/bottle.

I had the pleasure of meeting this young lady through the social networking website, twitter about a year ago. I was new to twitter and began following "@TywanaT" because she was in the DMV area and also an event planner. As time went on, she began to compliment me on my work which sparked a couple of conversations here and there. I would often extend an invitation for her to come in and get a complimentary makeup application but we never set a date. Later on I found out that Tywana rarely wears makeup and when she does, it's very minimal.

One day she contacted me about a hair appointment and I will tell you that the day we met (in person) was the day of a friendship to come. We talked as if we'd known each other for 10 years. Now that she is a regular client of mine I find myself having to schedule her appointments around time that we can talk for at least 2 hours or around my lunch time so we can go and talk. The friendship between Tywana and I is both business as well as personal and I am thankful that she is in my life because she gives me great advise that helps me look at things through the eyes of a "consumer, client, and business owner". I can tell you that Tywana knows her stuff! She is an excellent event planner that will give you 110% of herself to make sure that your event is the best that it can be.

I had the pleasure of meeting Clavina at the reception of another wedding I did makeup for and was attending. We instantly hit it off at the reception and exchanged contact info. She came in to do her bridal consultation and booked on the spot. Calvina has such a sweet spirit about her that instantly rubs of on all around her.
Today was the big day so as I made my way to New York and met with her and her bridal party this morning at 4:30 am the magic became to come together. Everyone looked fabulous, the dresses complimented every bridesmaid and her mother was absolutely gorgeous. I see where she gets her sweet spirit from.

ELF Beauty Book

As I was shopping in Target one day I decided to go by the beauty department to see what products might catch my eye. I came across this little book and picked it up. It's actually very cute. I like the idea of makeup being in a book not to mention the cost was only $5.00. I'm a fan of ELF products anyway so I had nothing to lose.

I REALLY like this book. The fact that you get 12 eye shadow colors, an eyeliner, and a a mirror in this cute little compact book is tooooo coool!! I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical about the shadows appearing cheap or not having very much pigment due to the price but that wasn't the case at all! Each color is highly pigmented and is true to color. The black has a hint of glitter in it that you can actually see on your eye after application. I checked online at ELF and found out that they have 8 different books including those for lips and face. I would definitely recommend this product to those who are watching their pennies this winter and preparing for the holidays. Even if you're not pinching pennies, this would be a great buy to have in your collection for travel purposes and convenience of not having to bother with carrying several different eye shadows with you on the go.

Lashes 101

Most women want to wear lashes but have no idea of which one to choose. Here are a few lashes that I love to work with on a regular basis.

I use the #747 XS lashes for my brides or clients that want a little drama with their makeup but are not regular eyelash clients. They're small and light-weight yet only extend past natural lashes about 1/4".

I use #747S lashes for clients that want a hint of drama to the eye and are more familiar with lashes. This style (believe it or not) looks fabulous on brides because it's not an over powering lash. It adds more length but not as noticeable.

I absolutely love this lash style. It not only gives you drama but it gives length. I use #600 lashes in a lot of my photo shoots and fashion shows. I've worn them myself to events but I would not recommend this lash for a wedding. It will over power the look of the eye.

I use #47 lashes for the ultimate drama and drag! If you're going to wear this lash you better be ready for the drama. As you can see, the base is pretty thick which means the lash will be heavier. If you are not use to lashes then you will not want to try this lash just because it will take you from 0-10 instantly.

I use #602 lashes for bottom lashes. As you can see that the placement of the lash goes down and not up. This means that they are for the bottom lash line. This lash will add just a hint of drama to your bottom lashes and paired with top lashes they can create a "fierce" look. I may use them on a bride depending on the situation (new years eve or holiday wedding or a themed wedding).

A couple of months ago I started reading a makeup book by celebrity makeup artist "Scott Barnes". I came to a chapter in his book where he suggested using a razor for eyebrows. I had used a eyebrow razor before for convenience in between brow appointments but at this point in my life I am (or should I say "was") desperate for some brow attention. What it all boils down to is that while living in Texas I had a FABULOUS eyebrow threader who faithfully groomed my brows every 4 weeks. Well since moving to Maryland almost 2 years ago I still haven't come across someone that has just "wow'd" me. Every time I go to the threading place the lady threads my brows thinner and thinner. I've also had them waxed and that didn't go well at all either. They were uneven so I found myself doing more work to my brows without makeup than I did with makeup!

SOOOOO after coming across this part in the book I decided to go back to old faithful and began grooming my brows again myself. Although I like to go to the spa and be pampered, I find that doing my own brows puts me back in the pilots seat. I groom them as often as I want and it only takes me 5-7 minutes to do both eyes.

Here's what I do:

- Cleanse my face and neck

- Apply my scrub to my face and neck then rinse

- Apply moisturizer to the brow area only

- Groom my brows

- Apply toner all over my face and neck w/cotton ball

- Apply moisturizer all over my face and neck

Styling Tips for the everyday woman

I shampooed and conditioned Heidi's hair with Paul Mitchell products. Before I blow-dried her hair I applied Paul Mitchell "heat seal" and combed it through to the ends. After that I used Paul Mitchell's "super skinny" serum to her hair for frizz control and shine.

I began by curling Heidi's hair with my flat iron. I took 1/2" partings and curled her hair under.

Once I curled her whole head I combed through it and began to pull curls apart with my comb and my fingers.

Once the curls were in place I went back with the same flat iron and flipped a few pieces of hair in the opposite direction to create a funky look.

I made sure the flipped pieces were smooth.

Once I was finished, I sprayed her hair with a little spray shine and a small amount of holding spray.

Just to show you how God and "Social Networking" works, I met Daryl Brown about 8 months ago on "Twitter". There is this thing on "twitter" that we call "FF" aka "Follow Friday" and someone (I can't even remember who) recommended that we "follow" Daryl. I clicked on his profile because I like to know who people are before I just start "following" them. I saw that he was a photographer so I viewed his website and was very impressed. So I gave him a shout out and he responded politely and we got to "tweeting" back and forth. As it turns out, I was in the process of looking for a photographer in the DMV area to be a part of an event I was having and reached out to the "twitter" world by sending out a general "tweet". Well guess who responded? Yes, Daryl did! I was extremely happy that he had interest in doing my event but was concerned about how he was going to get from Atlanta to Maryland. As he laughed at me he then told me that he was FROM Atlanta but LIVED right down the street in Arlington, Virginia. I was still puzzled because me being from Texas, I didn't know that VA was like 45 minutes from MD lol. After he stopped laughing at me, I gave him the details of the event and I guess as they say...the rest is history.

I can honestly say that Daryl Brown is the BEST photographer I have EVER worked with. It's almost scary at times because we have the same visions and know which direction we want to go with the shoot without having to finish the sentence. He's professional, talented, funny and really studies his craft. Didi I mention he was funny....lol. So you can imagine him being funny and me being silly on a shoot set...HEEELARIOUS! I had a chance to seriously sit down and talk to Daryl and here's how that went:

Daryl: The favorite part of my career is seeing the smiles on individuals faces after they've had a great session with me...because to me that says that I gave them something special, unique and timeless and that image or images will be talked about and passed on from generations to come.

Daryl: Not shooting...thats the God honest truth. When I'm not shooting I feel like I'm not accomplishing anything.

Blue Sparrow (neon) Nail Polish by China Glaze

I like this nail polish because it has a hint of glitter in it. I purchased a nail polish similar to this one months ago but had to apply 4 coats in order to get the glitter to really pop. With this nail polish I only applied 3 coats. I like my nail color as true to color as I can get it. With 2 coats I was able to see thru the tips of my nails so I just went ahead and applied the third coat. IT'S A PERSONAL PREFERENCE! All in all, I'm always a happy camper when it comes to China Glaze Nail Polish!

Sally Hansen "Color Quick" Nail Pen

I've been eye-balling this nail polish for a while so I finally decided to make a purchase today. To my surprise, the nail pen is very easy to use and the polish comes out even and steady. It doesn't dispense too much at one time so I was actually able to do about 3 nails before reloading. What I didn't like about the pen is that when I went to click the put-on for more polish, I was scared that I may accidentally mess up a nail because of the way the button goes down on the pen. The polish looked as promised on the package so they get an "A" for that and I really didn't need to coats but I did anyway :-0)! I did apply a clear top coat polish because I like the shiny look of nails. The color didn't last a week. It started chipping after about 4 days. Overall I give Sally Hensen an "B" for this product!

I had the opportunity to attend my first "tweetup" on Tuesday and I must say that I had a nice time. There were quit a few people there, there were drink specials, and appetizers available to guests if they wanted to purchase them. At the end of the night I ended up meeting 5 people and telling them about "Divine Cre8ions" as well as giving them a business card. I'll definitely attend another "tweetup" event.

Here Comes the Bride

I've always loved doing hair but there is something about making a bride glamorous on her special day. The bride in this pic was a challenge for me because she had already done a test run with another hairstylist/makeup artist and didn't like the turn out so her guard was up with me. She paid a lot of attention to details not only with her hair but with her makeup as well. In the end she booked with me and here is her final style for the wedding day. I appreciated her for challenging me and making me remember why I love my career so much. She was extremely happy for her wedding and that meant a lot to me.

I finally got a chance to use my "shadow shields" and I must say that I'm in love. After I applied my models foundation I stuck the shadow shields under her eyes and began to apply her eye shadow. Before you I knew it the eye shadow was falling but it the shields were there to catch the "fall out". "All About Face" is a book I'm currently reading by celebrity makeup artist Scott Barnes. I like this book because it is geared towards everyday women like myself. Even though I am a makeup artist, I still like to continue my education in order to better perfect my craft and enhance my God-given talent. "Blushing Bride"

I think brides should feel comfortable in their own skin on their special day. If a bride is a "rock out" kind of chic that tattoos are more than appropriate for the occasion. If a bride is more conservative then she may want to opt for cover-ups to be done for the day. I usually use airbrush makeup because it lasts 8-12 hours and will hold up in humid weather! Th choice is up to you!

SUPER Protection with a REGULAR Feel

I've been on a search for the perfect pad and tampon. Don't laugh, I really have been searching for the past 2 years. I've used all brands and all styles but had never found one that I could really excited about. As funny as it is, I've used another Kotex product and liked it but I wasn't "in love". WELL WELL WELL, about 2 months ago I stumbled upon this new brand by Kotex. I was immediately intrigued by the box and packaging that I just had to try them and figuring that I had nothing to lose, I went for both the pad and the tampons. I've found that Sanaa Lathan mostly wears a nude lips so when I came across this picture of her with a colored mouth I was intrigued to do a look that reflected it. I think she's absolutely beautiful and a great actress. Hope you enjoy the look!

- 1 coat of "sticky" base coat
- 3 coats of nail polish color (for an intense color)

Relieve dry-cracked lips

I have a hard time with dry lips and as you know I found the Nivea lip moisturizer which I love. It does moisturize my lips but doesn't exfoliate them so here is an easy and recession proof way to exfoliate your lips at home. I found this on youtube.

Items Needed:
- Olive Oil
- White Sugar
- Measuring Spoon (tablespoon)
- Nail Dish (2)
- Facial spatula
- New clean toothbrush

Direction:
- Apply a dime size amount of olive oil to your lips and let sit for 10 minutes
- Mix a small amount of olive oil in with the sugar in order to make a paste-like consistency
- While oil is still on your lips, apply sugar paste to lips with toothbrush and lightly scrub lips
- Wipe of lips with tissue
- Apply another dime size of olive oil to your lips and your done.

A Happy Scalp is a HEALTHY Scalp

Every now and then you have to stop and let your hair and scalp breathe. Let down your hair (or weave) and just sit back and relax. Healthy hair not only starts from the inside out, it also starts with great products. I've been a Paul Mitchell fan since I can remember. His products are consistant and edgy but they do what they say they're going to do (if used properly). I think everyone should have a bottle of "Shampoo Two" in their cabinet because it really cleanses the hair and gets rid of all the spray, oil, gloss, sheen, and shilaque we use on our hair to get that style as "fly" as we can. It has a fresh smell and a little goes a long way. I suggest using it atleast 2 times a month before your regular Paul Mitchell Shampoo then follow that with your Paul Mitchell Conditioner. You'll definetly see a difference in the bounce and swing of your hair. Remember to always follow the directions on all of your products to prevent misuse and damage to your hair.

Spring "Minx"

Yesterday I had the opportunity to finally get "minx'd". I had heard a lot about the process but had never got to experience it myself. I set up an appointment with my friend "Titilayo" who is ther owner of Visionary Nail Spa located in Camp Springs, MD. I was a little nervous because I didn't know what to expect but I knew Titi was going to take care of me...and that she did!! I hadn't had a manicure since I got out of cosmetology school and when I tell you that I didn't feel not one cuticle nip, scratch or scrape on my skin I was amazed. I, like most people, am use to going to the asian nail salon where they bend your finger out of it socket, clip you til you bleed and shape your nails how they feel they should be shaped. It was the complete opposite. The first thing I noticed was the atmosphere of the area. I loved the drapes and how comfy the room felt (almost like I was at home). Then I noticed that she catered to my as a "client" with complimentary water, the bathroom was clean and neat and it just made me feel more comfortable.Once I was finished with the manicure she began the minx process. To me it reminds me of doing easter eggs with my mom when I was a kid. You remember how you would wrap the egg in the decorative plastic covering and then dip the egg in hot water to watch the plastic adhere to the egg? Well the process is similar to that minus the eggs and hot water of course!! It was fun to watch and see how it would turn out. Well I love it!!! With 20 years of nail care experience I wouldn't trust anyone else because good customer service is hard to find.

- Apply a protective base around the brow area
- Apply brow lightening cream with a small tint brush or mascara wand
- Let sit for 5 minutes or as until desired shade is reached (no longer than 15 min)
- Rinse with cool water and cleanse with facial cleanser

- Pat dry and continue with facial cleansing regemin

I have the worst luck with my lips. They are always so dry and are always peeling. I was watching a television program where the dr. said that if your lips are dry then that meant you needed to drink more water. Well who has time to drink water all day with a career like mine when I'm always on the go. God knows I don't want to have to go to the potty 80 times a day, not to mention what would happen if I get stuck in traffic!!! SOOOOO I tested 2 products, one being Carmex and the other being Nivea Rejuvenation Q10+. I have to say hands down that Nivea won my lips over. I don't have to apply it 10 times a day. It is a thicker consitency than Carmex and it even has a small hint of color. I absolutely love the fact that it moisturizes my lips and doesn't just sit on top of them making it look like I've been eating chicken all day. BONUS - it has SPF 4 in it so it can not only help block the sun but can still be used in photographs without reflecting too much light. Being a makeup artist I feel like I have to keep up with the latest tricks of the trade to keep makeup looking and feeling as natural or as flawless as possible on camera and off. I find that using Monistat Soothing Care Chafing Relief POWDER-GEL under your foundation (after a light moisturizer) will prevent oily skin from shinning through your makeup. It is non-greasy and fragrant free so it dries like a powder once applied the skin. The gel contains vitamin e and aloe so it's perfectly safe for your face when used in moderation. A little goes a long way so you don't need to apply much.

Just think about it:

If it's main purpose is to prevent unwanted moisture (chafing) in areas such as bikini lines, intimate areas, plus size women, and new moms why wouldn't it work?

TAKE THE CHALLENGE:

If you have oily skin, simply apply a small amount on your most oily area and then apply your foundation and the rest of your makeup. After about 1-2 hours I want you to look at the area and see the difference for yourself. For about $7.00/bottle it's worth the try. Whether it works out for you or not I want you to let me know. We all know how important it is to keep our body clean but it seems as though woman get facial cleansing all wrong. Ive heard several horrible cleansing regiments so I'm here to help!

It is always important to cleanse your face and neck area daily. I suggest a mild cleansing system where all products work together to make the skin look and feel its best. A couple of my favorites are Origins, Mary Kay, Neutrogena, and even Avon. They all consist of basic products such as: cleansers, toners, masks, moisturizers, eye treatments and even age fighting serums which treat and help prevent sagging or tired looking skin. When searching for the perfect products, make sure you are able to sit down and talk to someone about the products you're going to purchase. You really don't want to make unnecessary purchase and/or waist money on products that weren't made for your skin type. When devoting time and a little money to your daily cleansing routine, you'll begin to see a difference in the "outer" you.

Great skin doesn't always come from the outside so remember to eat the right amount of fruits and veggies to bring out skins natural beauty and glow. Water is a key ingredient and an important part of cleansing. It should be consumed daily in order to hydrate the skin and prevent cracking or peeling skin.

I like most women am always searching for the perfect foundation with the perfect price so I went on a search. The last couple of months I've tried different brands of makeup and finally have hit the jackpot!
